When I sit down with a John Beckman book or short story, I feel like I'm visiting with old friends. In the case of John's "Tropical Fury" a Jack Steven's Adventure, I was not disappointed. The story moves just like a tropical storm, building slowly and then wham! Full frontal gale force winds right in your face.It's topical as well as tropical with some politics tossed into the mix. Being a former weatherman, John nicely weaves the NOAA realism into the action and without getting gratuitously complicated pays off the subplots with some interesting twists. If there is a Jack Steven's #5, I'll be reading that one too.
Apart from novels (and now art, as I understand), John Beckman is an excellent short story teller. Poignant and arresting and sometime gut-grabbing, John's short stories are brief and wonderful reads and are also available here on Amazon.

You can almost taste the salt spray caused by Hurricane Alex in John Beckman's latest Jack Steven's Adventure, Tropical Fury. Beckman spins a tale with as much action as a category 4 storm. His descriptive writing keeps you engaged and the pages turning. The bad thing about finishing this book is that I have to wait for Jack and Amy's next adventure!
Post 9/11, what does a retired meteorologist with a penchant for sailing and big boobs write about? Hurricanes and sailing spiced with blonde with too much sail for such a little boat, a little terrorism, all topped with government malfeasance, of course! And no one weaves the story better than Beckman. "Tropical Fury" is a top notch read that features our old heroes, Jack and Amy and dear old Millie. If you enjoy reading Ben Coes, Brad Thorn and Vince Flynn, you'll love this one!
